A Romantic, Suspenseful Supernatural Thrill Ride

As she did in the first offering of the ‘Made In Heaven’ Trilogy, Toni Goode has captured the imagination with a heart-pounding, romantic suspenseful thriller in ‘Whispers of Darkness’, the second of the aforementioned series.

Speaking of captured, that is where we find the main protagonist, Finn, as the saga picks up, a prisoner of the Vampire Authorities after he witnessed the demise of his beloved, centuries long love, Olivia- now seeming lost to the mysterious vacuum of time and space beyond the mortal world. But is she lost? At the finale of the first adventure, as a reader, we were hopeful that since she managed to transcend from Heaven to Earth once before – it could happen again. And Finn believes that too. However, he will need help to make this happen from a very special, powerful source. The Cordova coven, whose destruction he was responsible for, centuries prior.

Enter Bree – a force to be reckoned with even before – it becomes evident that she has the power that Finn is seeking. Is it a race for mutual destruction?  Or mutual benefit, as they begin a cohesive journey to discover answers for themselves and one another.  But as we learned in the first book, Finn is no ordinary Vampire. In the spirit of ‘True Blood’ – he in fact, might be one of those immortal hunks – who’s also one of the ‘good ones.’  And in this go-round, we see that aspect of Finn surface again, enough so that our newly discovered gothy-style, vamp-hunting young witch Bree, begins to find herself drawn in by the gentler, often vulnerable ‘humanity’ that is an unwavering part of his personality.

Warning – As the adventure builds, so will your immersion in this story as Bree and Finn are both faced with conflicted motivations in the discovery of HER powers and the search for HIS lost love, Olivia. (i.e. – put aside the time to keep... turning... pages!) Along the way, they encounter both assistance and deterrence from of several returning characters and some eccentric new ones who add to the chaotic, fast-paced thrill ride through Toni’s world of the supernatural, set against the backdrop of that normal, mortal world – where most of us are potentially – lunch.

Whispers of Darkness is truly a masterpiece of storytelling. It embodies all the elements of the genre and continues to accelerate, building to a stimulating crescendo of suspense, seduction and imaginative imagery that will have you – as it does me – ready and anxious for the next piece of this series.
